Buying new art supplies is like buying a new lipstick. The perfect new-ness of the packaging and the eagerness to experiment are one in the same. And let’s be honest, you can never have enough lipstick and you can never have enough art supplies.
When the stores start stocking the back-to-school aisles, I get a little thrill because I know I need to head to the art stores (online too!) for their great back to school discounts. Back to school is not just boring binders, filler paper, and #2 pencils, people. There are starving art students out there who need back to school supplies for their sculpture, painting, drawing, and mixed media classes. Lucky them! And art supply stores have the best sales this time of year. So take advantage and stock up on BOGOs and discounts on canvases, watercolor paper, brushes, fancy pens, acrylic paint and sketchbooks. It’s also a great time to try out new art supplies. The discounts make it more reasonable to try out new mediums and test out new ideas.
If you create handmade gifts and decor for the holidays, back to school sales are the perfect time to shop for everything you will need to get to crafting early rather than later.
And don’t forget frames for your beautiful art work; there are serious discounts to be found, like 60% off. Check out the Michael’s weekly ad which currently has great discounts, coupons and BOGOs through September 5th. Many stores have discounts on your entire purchase including sale items. Weekly ads from Utrecht, Dick Blick, Hobby Lobby and more have awesome sales right now. Happy shopping!
